We are now Florida residents!

May 9, 2022

We made the trip to Florida to register our vehicles and obtain drivers' licenses because you legally have to "live" somewhere.

We get the feeling that maybe we are a bit young to be moving to Florida.

The DMV was a really good experience (who would have thought) - it was by reservation and we were assigned to a single person who handled the entire process.

In total we:

  1. Re-titled the truck

  2. Re-titled the camper (which is considered our home by the state of Florida)

  3. Both got new drivers licenses (which list our camper license plate as our home address)

Just finished at the DMV!

Look at that shiny new plate. We are now officially "Florida Man" and "Florida Woman"!

While in Florida we stayed at a pretty wacky inn (Pirate Haus Location - Map) which was right in the heart of the historic district of St. Augustine.

Each room had a "theme". I think the pictures actually look better than what it looked like in person.

But it was cheap and in an excellent location, and one of our superpowers is the ability to not care (so much) about things like outdatedness, disrepair, and general sketchiness, as long as a few pennies can be spared.

We had an evening to wander around the town and see the sights - it is very touristy, and very walkable.

Viewing the historic district from the Bridge of Lions. I guess we should have taken a picture of the lion statues, but we didn't notice them.

Cobblestone and cuteness around every corner :)

We were amazed at the size of the vine on this tree.

These two "Dr. Seuss" trees looked so fake, like the foliage was made of plastic.

Flagler College is in the middle of the historic district. It used to be a luxury hotel. Seems like it would be hard to focus on studying in these surroundings.

Feels like Hogwarts

...with a Spanish twist.

A unique sundial

Inside the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine. Perhaps a bit gaudy by today's interior design standards.

For dinner, we went to a wonderful seafood restaurant. I (Julie) claimed it as my official birthday dinner. Incidentally, it seems that I often am the one to take pictures with people in them, so there isn't a picture of the birthday girl here.

Can't remember exactly what this was, but it was very good. Some kind of fish topped with a crab crust on top of corn and other veggies on top of smashed potatoes and surrounded with a really good sauce. Yum!

Breakfast at Maple Street Biscuit company (Rick is still working on his selfie technique🙂)

As part of the Florida trip we stopped in Atlanta to visit Stephanie, Eric, and Rebecca in their condo.  It was a nice 1/2 way point to break up the trip and we stayed with them for a couple of days on the way back to visit and see their other new house (really nice backyard with small in-ground pool and in-ground hot tub). I guess we neglected to take pictures of either of their homes--oh well.

Fun roadside place in Blueridge, GA where we got really good pulled pork.

A place that looks this cluttered must be good!

Their cats were VERY interested in getting into the bedrooms where they are not normally allowed to enter.
