Random work has begun!

July 4, 2018

Now we get into the boring posts - just filling in where we are and what we got done . . . .

The fresh water tank vent hose had a big hole in it - so when we filled the tank all the way up it poured water all over inside the camper and out the bottom - so that was fun.  Repair was to just cut the hose, put in an aluminum tube chunk and use hose clamps and silicone grease everything.  Seems to be holding just fine.

The fresh water tank bulged out the bottom of the camper like it had a hernia - not a spectacular fail, but did not give me a confident feeling that it would hold up well bumping down a gravel road - so off to Menards we went (well - we actually tried Home Depot, and Lowes before ending up at Menards) and they had what we needed to put another bar in place (the new silver one in the picture.)

NOTE: For future me - there are nylon nuts on top of the frame member this is bolted to - you have to get into the underbelly to take this off.

The ugly branding has been removed from the outside of the camper (notice the nice clean front cap).

Julie was able to peel them off using a metal rod to wrap the stickers around and get leverage.  The ones on the fiberglass (sides and back) came off clean and were easy to finish up with a little goo gone and alcohol to finish.  The one on the nose left behind some sort of nasty glue stuff that had to be scraped with a credit card . . .

I replaced one of the existing fans with a new MaxAir 7500K fancy fan that we can use while driving and in the rain.  It also has a remote control and has an automatic mode based upon temperature.  Not sure what of those features we need - but with the tall ceiling the remote is sort of important.

  Other random things include:

  • A new shower head and faucet.

  • I tried shortening the cables that hold up the deck to make it level . . . fail . . . . too short now. . . . waiting on new turn buckles and clips from Amazon which hopefully will fix it up to be level.

  • Wedging a piece of wood under the shower floor so it does not flex and break.

  • The stereo and most of the speakers has been removed for sale (need to wait for some plates and caulk to take off the outside speakers so I can cover the hole and insulate the wall better.

  • The kitchen faucet has a pin hole in the middle of the curved metal spout - not even sure how that happens!  We were planning on replacing that anyway.
