One Last Post Before Our 2024 Travels
April 6, 2024
Julie realized that she had taken several pictures of our last month in Florida that needed to "go" somewhere, and seeing that one of the purposes of this blog is to be a final resting place for all the pictures that she loves to take, it was decided to squeeze in one last blog post before our embarkment on our 2024 journey. Technically, this post is being written after we have already moved on, but that little fact doesn't support the narrative of this post, so please just play along with us here 😉.
We did a couple of interesting things in March that generated some pictures. One is we met Rick's brother Ken and his wife Maura down in Venice for lunch when they came to town to visit some of Maura's relatives. We had a lovely time visiting with them and meeting some of Maura's family.

We walked the fishing pier after lunch and encountered some unusually aggressive pelicans...

This lady ended up warding off the pelicans with her purse shortly after this picture was taken
The other interesting thing is we took our now annual trip down to Anna Maria Island. We chose a beautiful warm day, but what we didn't realize was that it was Spring Break for Florida schools. So, it was a bit busy. Traffic to the island was horrendous, so we ended up parking at a nearby nature preserve and rode our bikes to the island. The ride through the nature preserve was quite nice, so it was a win for us.

We were making better time to the island on our bikes than the cars were on the road

Such a gorgeous day!
Look around at the beautiful blue water

We rode around some neighborhoods that we didn't see last year when we visited. People are really into their novelty mailboxes here...

Anna Maria Island has a lot of beach access, so it wasn't too hard to find some more or less secluded waterfront to hang out at, as long as you didn't need a place to park a car. Biking Anna Maria is much preferable than driving, in our opinion.

The water was very inviting, but still a little coolÂ

This part of the island is getting eroded pretty badly

And one last parting shot of the view out our back deck for the last few months...
