Lake Sumner State Park, New Mexico

November 3, 2025

Our last stop in New Mexico for the season was definitely not a "destination" destination. And that made for a pretty short blog post this time around.

Interesting roadside sculpture

Not much to look at in these parts of New Mexico, aside from the billboards...

...and the occasional tree.

Our campsite had a distant view of Lake Sumner, and it was fine, but it somehow lacked the "wow" factor. We have definitely become scenery snobs!

Our view out the back deck

We only did a few "noteworthy" things here. We walked around the park, we biked around the park, and we made the 1/2-hour trek to the town of Ft. Sumner for Church, a gallon of milk, and gas. Those are the gripping exploits that you are now devoting several minutes of your life to read about. You'll never get that time back. 😉

The Walk. We took it slow.

The Bike Ride.

We just rode everywhere we could easily get to, which made for a short ride

This is fairly representative of the area surrounding the state park. (Although the highly trained ducks were a bit unusual 😉)

One afternoon, our camper was swarmed with paper wasps--looking for a new home, we supposed. Rick spent a good amount of time doling out disincentive with the electric racquet.

We saw these Coues' deers several times at our campsite. They look normal-sized in this picture, but they are actually less than 3 feet tall!

We have had a lot of good sunsets in New Mexico 🙂

And that's all she (and he) wrote!
