Easter 2026 in the Middle of Florida

April 5, 2026

Our first stop of the 2026 travel season was only a couple hours' drive from the RV park where we spent the last few months. Julie chose the location mainly because of its relative proximity to a church where we could partake in Holy Week festivities. The fact that it wasn't an RV park also made it particularly enticing.

Not going to miss Tampa traffic!

Not that there's anything wrong with RV parks, but every year after a few months in one, we find ourselves itching for some nature. Any nature. The nature we encountered here wasn't of the awe-inspiring sort, but for the first time in four months, we had a view from our deck that wasn't an old Oldsmobile that took several minutes of idling before it was able to move on its own power (most definitely your father's Oldsmobile).

At last, away from the hustle and bustle of civilization!

A campsite with trees!

Upon arrival, we were pleasantly (and not entirely expectedly) rewarded with our newly-installed bathroom corner cabinet not ripping of the wall during transit...

Over the winter, we had purchased a corner cabinet that was a wee bit heavier than anticipated. That, coupled with the fact that RV's are not constructed with a whole lot of structure in the interior walls (think 1/8" paneling backed by 1 x 1's,--if you're lucky), made for a bit of a wonky installation. So, not discovering exploded cabinet all over the floor was a definite plus!

The campground was quite pleasant with a "campground-y" feel, and we generally enjoyed our stay.

On Easter Sunday we figured we should "do something", so we took a bike ride along a nearby gravel road through the State Forest.

Pretty exciting route isn't it?

There wasn't much variety on this road. Who are we kidding? There was no variety. The entire road looked exactly like this.

Since Florida hasn't had a lot of rain lately, we found ourselves completely enshrouded in fine white dust when a car passed us. Shortly after that, we decided to "call it" and headed back. When we got home, it took a while to shake all the dust off of everything. We decided that the trip fell into the category of "definitely not worth the effort".

Good thing Julie spent a couple of hours washing the bikes and chains over the winter!

That's all for now--Happy Easter everyone!!!
