Cincinnati, Ohio
October 23, 2023
Our travel day was pretty dreary--a steady diet of oppressive low hanging clouds and intermittent drizzle most of the way. That, coupled with not very exciting Midwest interstate scenery, made for a less than inspiring drive. But, we eventually made it to our destination--the property of a former neighbor in North Bend (Rusty) who generously allowed us to stay for the week.

Beautiful surroundings for the week
We had stayed at Rusty's in May of 2022 in the couple of days between the time we moved out of our house and first embarked on our newfound "homelessness". It seems like only yesterday, but it was nearly a year and a half ago!
We enjoyed a week of reconnecting with our old neighbors and coworkers and re-visiting some of our favorite sites. Included in the mix was a trip to Skyline Chili for its distinctive "chili" mainly found in Cincinnati (and some other parts of Ohio) and our favorite Thai restaurant, Buddha Barn.

Rusty's property is beautiful

Sunrise out our window one morning

We walked down to Cliff Road (overlooking the Ohio River), as we did so many times in the past

We found Cliff Road to be pretty much the same--still on the verge of collapsing into the Ohio

The never-ending struggle to stabilize the road
Rick went out on the neighborhood trails with some of the guys in their side-by-sides one afternoon.

One of our favorite local hikes was the nearby Bender Mountain Nature Trail, so we went there for old time's sake.

The trail climbed up to a ridge where there were good views of the Ohio River and Kentucky

We were lucky that our visit coincided with Ken's (our former neighbor) welcome back party to celebrate the completion of his 4000+ mile bicycle trek from the Pacific to the Atlantic oceans. We had connected with him a few weeks ago when our paths intersected in Marquette, Michigan. It was nice seeing him and many of our former neighbors again.
We also enjoyed a tour of the brand new facility of our former employer, Brighton Science. It was great chatting with old co-workers, and we had a pleasant dinner and drinks with Mike and Tom (and Mike's wife, Nancy).
On Saturday we got a surprise text from a couple we had met in Mississippi last November. They happened to be very close to Cincinnati, so we met up with them in Lawrenceburg, Indiana for a lovely dinner.
All in all, we had a wonderful week, and we hope to be in this neck of the woods again some day. Our thanks go out to Rusty for his graciousness in allowing us to park on his property for the week!
We close this post with a few parting sunrise shots...
