Brunet Island State Park, Wisconsin
September 2, 2024
Now that it is later in the year and the sun is not rising as high in the sky, our solar panels are having more difficulty finding photons in shady campsites like our most recent one in Crystal Lake. Leaving a campground with 60% battery is usually not a problem, as we can typically recharge on the road. However, the thunderstorm activity during our travel day put a bit of a damper on that plan.

Despite some rain and thunderstorms, the sun peaked out enough during our trip to fill our batteries to 84%
Seeing that we were going to another shady campsite with no electric, we were a little concerned with beginning the stay with less than full batteries. When we arrived, though, we managed to maneuver the trailer into a spot that looked reasonably open to the sky. Even though the first few days were cloudy, we managed to at least break even each of those day. And when the sun finally made its appearance, we got to 100% no problem.

Our nicely secluded site provided just enough sun for the solar panels

A very pleasant pond view out the back

Brunet Island is relatively small and only has a couple of trails to offer, but it was a fun stay. An extra bonus for us was that our daughter Audrey came to visit for the weekend. We enjoyed our time with her taking walks, cooking interesting food, and just hanging out.

We were curious what language was on the right side of this white sign near the beach

Here's Google's attempt at translation. We still don't know what language it was.

The Chippewa River

Cute little toad

And that's it. Next stop is St. Paul to visit with all the kids! 🙂
