Big Bend Part 2, Texas

March 28, 2023

Continuing on with the post.

On Monday we headed back into Big Bend Ranch State Park to explore some of the trails along the Rio Grande. The scenery along the river road was still gorgeous.

Look around at the scenery right off the road

Our first stop was Closed Canyon Trail (less than 2 miles out and back).

The trail ended before reaching the Rio Grande :(

Next up was the Fresno Divide Trail (much longer - around 7 miles total).

We had to walk down a gravel road a ways to get to the trailhead.

Look around

Julie was really enthralled with all the prickly pear cacti that were blooming. Fortunately for you, dear reader, she did edit out many of those pictures (yes, really).

Look around at our highest point where we rested for a bit before returning the way we came

This lizard was our only wildlife sighting of the hike

Temperatures were getting warmer toward the end of our hike (close to 90), and we were pretty exhausted by the time we got back to the car.

One more stop along the scenic river road for a quick picture on the way back, and that was about all we had energy for...

On our last day here, the temperatures dropped to the low 60's and the wind picked up quite a bit - so it provided a good day to take care of laundry, make a loaf of breakfast bread, and finish up the blog post!
